 Myron and list serve members,

It sounds like a term used either by a misinformed speaker or someone unknowledgeable about composting. Composting is, by most industry definitions, an aerobic process. Unfortunately, there is no "legal" definition for composting, thereby distiguishing between "composting" and any number of digestion, fermentation or decompostiion processes. As a consequence, the everyday citizen is like the story of the seven blind men describing what each perceived the elephant to be.

Anaerobic composting is a misnomer (and an oxymoron) but no more so than vermicompost or High Temperature Liquid Composting (HTLC), neither of which are actually composting.

Subject: [USCC] What is anaerobic composting?

I was recently in a meeting discussing composting options for the community.

Their engineer mentioned anaerobic composting as a system. I didn't have

the opportunity to get that explained to me. I am guessing he meant systems

that didn't have forced aeration ( if that is what he meant I disagree with

his use of the terms).

Please educate me.

What is anaerobic composting?

Thanks
