[USCC] shredded office paper as carbon source

Mike:

While the carbon in the cellulose of shredded paper is beneficial to your
mix nutrient balance, you won't get any structural porosity in the pile, and
thus risk anaerobic conditions. I'd suggest you add ~ 10 - 20% (by volume)
of coarse wood chips (~ 4" or bigger) to the paper-food mix and then
recycle/reuse them after screening.

Another possible, but minor issue would be metals from the inks in the
paper, but given the low-metals nature of your feedstock, that's not likely
to be a problem.

Cheers,
Craig

Subject: [USCC] shredded office paper as carbon source

What is the scoop on using shredded office and photocopier paper as a carbon
source for food scrap composting? With the concern for protection of the
privacy of personal information nowadays, I can get my hands on lots of
shredded office paper.
