Greetings composters. Anyone have experience composting/recycling cork? The
following question was received at the USCC offices:

Subject: Composting cork

Hello,

I am experimenting with recycling used wine and champagne corks and would
like to know if they are okay to grind and compost. Or can the ground cork
be worked into the soil as is without composting it first? Apparently, the
corks are given a fine coating of paraffin and/or silicone to make insertion
and removal easier and I didn't know if this harmlessly breaks down in the
soil or not. I would appreciate any information you can provide.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Carol Prell

Thanks in advance for your replies!

Cary
