Brenda,

            WORC just had their annual conference on just this topic. It is
an area with lots of new information and changing understandings. You
should get the most recent info.

            I recommend contacting Scott Subler of Environmental Credit
Corp, Chad Kruger of WSU's Center for Sustaining Agriculture, and/or Sally
Brown at Univ of Washington. Sometime soon the presentations from the
conference will be posted on WORC's website - www.compostwashington.org
<http://www.compostwashington.org/>

Good luck!

Subject: [USCC] carbon sequestration via composting

I am writing a booklet tentatively called, Stop Wasting the Climate, and

need some good citations on carbon sequestration via composting.

Can any one point me to data showing how much of the carbon in composted

organics typically gets sequestered in the compost product vs C02?

I found one article that indicated approx. half the carbon is sequestered.

This article cited Elliot Epstein's 1997 book, The Science of Composting,

(pp. 487). Can someone confirm this?

Thanks in advance!

Brenda
