[USCC] Composting shellfish residue

Does anyone have any experience with composting shellfish residue?  I am
looking for a way to reduce the volume and odor of crab and shrimp
shells prior to drying/grinding them.  I plan on adding them to a
pelletized poultry litter fertilizer.

Any help would be appreciated.
