What you are essentially saying is that 50 to 80% of your materials will
need to be screened out by the composters, adding to their costs.
I suggest that you focus on using products that meet ASTM D6400 and D6868,
which identify truly compostable plastics and coated paper products. These
materials are being successfully used in major food scrap diversion efforts
in the US and Canada. These materials disintegrate quickly and biodegrade
safely in professionally managed composting facilities and not leave
persistent plastic residues.
Also, I suggest that you check the California labeling laws (PRC 42355 & PRC
42359) which govern the use of the terms "biodegradable", "compostable" and
"degradable" on plastic products. Unless your products meet ASTM D6400 or
D6868, you can not legally market your products in CA using one of the above
phrases.
