Colleagues:
I'm trying to assess various methodologies and equipment for making
compost-based specialty soils (i.e. turfgrass rootzone mix, green roof
media, manufactured topsoil, etc.). Does anyone have any experience with
these or other methods? Does anyone have any suggestions on equipment
manufacturers to consider? As many of these compost-based soils have high
sand content, and sand being abrasive, any recommendations for hardening
against excessive wear?
Soil Blending Methods
Bucket-blend with FEL & run thru trommel screen (at least twice.this worked
for me at Mountain Organics several years ago)
Combine ingredients into a windrow and mix with windrow turner (a couple of
composters make soils this way)
Bucket-blend with FEL & use a (hammermill) shredder-screener (like CBT)
Load a hopper-based mobile or stationary mixing system (mobile: Dakota,
Knight Reel Auggie (?), Rotomix (?), Supreme (?); stationary: pug mills?)
Mix with a FEL attachment (Allu, others?)
Use biosolids lime stabilization equipment (Cemen-Tech, others?)
Use a rotary drum?
Other ideas?
As usual, many thanks for your collective wisdom!
Regards,
Craig
