Hello Ron -
I'm sure there is plenty of literature on use of compost in
all three situations.
So the question might be answered by which databases and
search engines would somebody explore to find such research.
This following web portal compiled for ATTRA-NSAIS research
provides quick access to key bibliographic databases, search
engines, and journal databases.
AgWeb: The Ultimate Agricultural Research Directory
http://www.attra.org/searchAgWeb.html
Scholar Google is one of the first search tools that
I find myself using for a quick view of literature
citations, but you might wind up using one or two
dozen search tools if you conduct a thorough scan.
No. 2 might result in voluminous bibliographic hits which
will require narrowing the question.
No. 1 and No. 3 can be found among EPA-type research and
documentation. Rufus Cheney's research on use of compost
for mine reclamation could be pertinent.
No. 2 is the Q -- compost's effects on soil ecosystem
development and improved soil function (N transformation,
beneficial microbe growth, soil faunal community
response) -- that is driving huge interest and exploration
in use of composts, compost teas, and liquid compost extracts.
Hope this helps,
Steve Diver

Hello Compost World,
There is a researcher I met in Europe who is looking for some
biosolids, paper mill sludge and compost data from North America.
I was hoping that someone out there could tell me if they knew
if the following information existed, and if so, where I could
track it down for them.
Compost
1. Case study or project where compost was used to reclaim a
brownfield site. One in which detailed scientific data was collected.
(soil data, biologic data, plant growth, etc.)? Any projects that
may have monitored changes over time?
2. Research on composts effects on soil ecosystem development and
improved soil function (N transformationm, beneficial microbe
growth, soil faunal community response)?
Biosolids and/or Paper Mill Sludge
1. Case studies or actual projects where soils have been created
in-situ using compost,, biosolids or paper mill sludge - perhaps
comparing it to imported soil. Maybe something showing economics
of the comparison?
If you have any data that would match these requests or have a
suggestion who I may speak to to track them down, please let me
know. I would really appreciate it.
Thank you,
Ron
