The following announcement is a request for
abstracts for the 2007 Mid Atlantic Composting
and Compost Use Conference and Expo. Please
promote this conference by encouraging potential
presenters to respond to the request or submitting an abstract

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
September 19-21, 2007
Beltsville, MD
The Mid Atlantic Composting and Compost Use
Conference is a biennial event providing
composting professionals with practical
information on the science of composting,
facility planning and design, operations,
regulations, economics, marketing, utilization,
and other relevant topics. The conference is an
event of the Mid Atlantic Composting Association (MACA).
The Conference will be held at the USDA-ARS
facilities in Beltsville, Maryland from 1 pm,
September 19 to noon, September 21. The event
will include oral paper sessions and a trade show
during the first two days and a tour of
composting and compost use sites on the morning
of the final day. Included in the cost of
registration will be dinners on Sep. 19 and 20,
lunch on Sep. 20, and breaks on Sep. 19 and 20.
Abstracts for oral presentations are requested in the areas listed below.
· Planning and Developing Composting Programs
· Composting Technology Development
· Compost Processing Techniques/Optimization
· Compost Utilization
· Odor Management
· Regulatory Issues
· Compost Facility Operations, Training, and Safety
· Compost Marketing and Distribution
· Composting Facility Economics
· Research and Development
· Onsite (Backyard) Composting Programs
· Case Studies
Instructions for submitting abstracts
All abstracts for oral presentations should be
emailed as a Word or RTF attachment by April 20.
Abstracts should be 500 words or less, typed in
Times New Roman, 12 font. Please include authors
name(s) and institution(s), title of
presentation, a contact persons name, address,
telephone and fax numbers, and email address.
Abstracts should reflect original, current work
and should be sent to: Greg Evanylo at <mailto:gevanylo at vt.edu>gevanylo at vt.edu.
Authors of selected papers will be notified by
May 25. Authors will be required to pay
conference registration fees and their own travel
expenses. Conference registration fees will be
$75 for MACA members and $100 for non-members
before August 1, 2007 ($100 for members and $125
for non-members after 8/1/07). Presenters
selected will be subject to the member, early
registration rate (i.e., $75) for the three-day
event. Arrangements have been made with several
hotels in the area to provide a block of rooms at
reduced rate for conference presenters and
attendees. Abstracts will be published and
distributed to conference registrants via a CDROM.
