nutgrass is "yellow nutsedge" it is a bi-anual can be positively identified by the triangle shape at the base if it is pulled. keep the lawn mowed and only moderately watered and most lawn grasses will crowd it out. It prefers wet rich soils.

e have seen this occasionally with compost applications here in Austin,
exas. I have not seen this occur when compost was used to sprout seeds
r when used in my garden areas at home, however. Composting
emperatures should be too high for nutgrass to survive, but perhaps
ompost stimulates growth of dormant nutgrass in the soil.

ello everyone. I was just curious if anyone has ever noticed a large
roblem with nutgrass following landscape application of finished
ompost.
e operate a type III facility here at App State and when our finished
roduct has been utilized on campus, there have been large amounts of
utgrass showing up.
Any suggestions for getting rid of this nutgrass? I know it is a bear to
