[USCC] nutgrass

We have seen this occasionally with compost applications here in Austin,
Texas. I have not seen this occur when compost was used to sprout seeds
or when used in my garden areas at home, however. Composting
temperatures should be too high for nutgrass to survive, but perhaps
compost stimulates growth of dormant nutgrass in the soil.

Hello everyone. I was just curious if anyone has ever noticed a large
problem with nutgrass following landscape application of finished
compost.
We operate a type III facility here at App State and when our finished
product has been utilized on campus, there have been large amounts of
nutgrass showing up.
Any suggestions for getting rid of this nutgrass? I know it is a bear to
deal with...

Yes we compost DE after the winerys have used it as a filter element.
The volume to the other organics have been small enough that we have not
noticed any effect on the compost.
We blend it in with the other feedstocks as we are making the windrow.
