Thanks to Jim McNelly is just the first step. We as an organization now need
to try and understand what all of this really means. As Matt Cotton
indicated, Jim has done this good work for 8 years, and without cost or
consideration to USCC membership, or the greater composting community at large. It has
been an open forum for all but the few eccentrics to air opinions, seek
technical advice and maintain an open window to view the state of the industry on
a daily basis.
When Matt says the growth in list serve has put "USCC in the position of
bringing the list serve duties in-house and having this member service of the
organization overseen by USCC staff" It only serves to make me wonder if he is
not considering making this a pay service - for USCC members, instead of
the great, free service it has been to the whole of the composting world under
Jim McNelly. Is this just another way to make a consulting fee for someone on
the board or paid staff? Why has the USCC Board chosen to fix something
that was not broken?
This does not make sense, nor does it feel right to me. I hope this is not
the beginning of some restrictive end, or profit center motivated by private
gain, at the cost of service to the whole of our industry.
