[USCC] Any interest in a potential feedstock?

Carbon black production residual as composting feedstock?

Dear Craig:

I believe that such a residual would contain significant levels of
polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, although I don't know that for sure.
Carbon black is produced by burning gas with insufficient oxygen. I
suggest that the PAH levels be measured. It could be in the % levels
rather than ppm. If high PAH levels are found, some are degraded during
composting, while the multiple ring compounds are more stable and
degraded only slowly over time by microbes. Multi-ring PAHs are included
in the priority pollutant listing, and some are carcinogenic (e.g.,
benzo(a)pyrene). So anyone interested in such feedstocks should look
carefully before accepting such inputs.

One of my clients is interested in exploring composting or recycling
opportunities for 600 - 800 tons/month of a process wastewater residual
from
carbon black manufacturing.

The material is generated in Wickliffe, KY (near Paducah KY, Cario IL
and
Cape Girardeau MO, about 40 miles north of the TN border). It is a
sludge,
with ~30% T.S., clean, non-tox, with high calcium content. I'm trying
to
get additional lab data on C:N and soluble salts.

I have some background data on this material. If anyone is interested,
please let me know.

Happy Holidays!
Craig
