Prize for 'caviar project'
Sep 19 2006
By The Huddersfield Daily Examiner
A FISH farming project launched in Lepton has won a national award.
The Able Project - which uses recycled cardboard in a scheme to feed fish which provide caviar - has received recognition from the Chartered Institution of Waste Management.
The innovation award was presented by the institution's vice-president, Keith Simmonite, to project manager Graham Wiles, of the Green Business Network.
Under the scheme recycled cardboard was shredded and used as bedding for animals.
The used bedding was composted using worms. Some of the worms were then fed to sturgeon, which in turn produced caviar.
