[USCC] CC copy Message Issues Again

List Members,
As Moderator of the USCC list, I have repeatedly posted messages
warning members not to send CC copies of messages to the list to
other e-mail accounts. To crack down on the problem, we have begun
suspending posting privileges for up to a month for members who place
CC recipients in messages sent to the USCC list. Over the past three
months, over twelve accounts have been temporarily suspended.
A new problem has come up as other members respond to the previous CC
messages and their response includes the CC recipient without their
knowledge. Even though they were not the source of the e-mail
address being added to the CC list, their response to the USCC list
inadvertently included the other recipient. We are suspending those
accounts as well, even though they were not the source of the CC, as
we have to find a way to stop the endless problem of private mail
going to the larger list and public mail going private.
As this individual did not know that they were picking up a stray CC
address, to be fair, I am posting this note to ask members to look at
their message before they send it to the USCC list and make sure that
they have not accidentally picked up a stray e-mail address in the CC
line. Never responding to "ALL" is one way to avoid picking up
unwanted CC recipients. But one way or the other, the CC message
cycle has to end as this problem can go on for months and months.
I do not like cluttering the USCC List with these moderator messages,
and wish that this bug in our Internet list Management Software can
be fixed to eliminate CC messages. But the last major management
problem we have in maintaining this discussion list is the problem of
members copying other e-mail addresses when sending messages to the
USCC list. Private mail going to the larger list is the inevitable
result when this is done.
If you must copy another individual, please do so by sending the
message a second time with only that other e-mail address. Now we
also ask each member to check their message header when responding to
the list as they may have picked up a stray e-mail account without
their knowledge.
Thank you all for your cooperation and patience,
Jim~ McNelly
