Terry
A growing number of professionally managed composting facilities in North
America are accepting compostable plastics-ones that meet ASTM D6400 or ASTM
D6868. Often these products carry the BPI symbol verifying that they meet
the requirements based on testing in independent labs and are successfully
used in programs from San Francisco and Seattle to PEI and the Regions
around Toronto.

Typically, this is done a facility by facility basis by each manufacturer,
as composting systems differ in terms of feedstocks and handling
capabilities.

You should plan on attending the "All Compostable" BBQ on Tuesday Jan 23 at
the USCC meeting and you will see a growing array of products that meet the
ASTM Specs and carry the BPI symbol.

Regards
Steve Mojo
BPI Executive Director
