[USCC] floating water pumps for supplying water to compost site

Brian:

One solution I'm using at a composting operation in VA is a Berkeley well
pump (www.berkeleypumps.com) to pump 150 gpm against a total head of 172 ft.
The well pump (and its Franklin Electric Motor) will be mounted beneath a
floating sled in the stormwater pond (a flow sleeve will be needed for a
horizontal application of a well pump). The costs for the pump, motor, and
sled will be about $3K. The windrow irrigation system will be 6" PVC pipe
feeding several hose standpipes around the composting pads. That type of
pump might work in a river, but obviously would depend on flow and flooding
issues.

Another pump to consider would be a Piranha pump (www.piranhapumps.com) but
they are more expensive.

Regards,
Craig

Hello everyone,

I am looking for information on a floating pump that can be used to
pump water out of an adjacent river to water our 3.5 acres compost site.
I've checked with the Corp of Engineers and they have told me as long
as a permanent structure is not built on the bank of the river I don't
need a permit to pump water to our site. Here's my problem, the only
pump I've been able to find on the net is a Watermaster Floating pump
which looks great but only has 30 feet of head so it can only go up
vertically 30 feet. I need to clear 50 feet from the water to the top
of the bank. Does anybody have a good solution for me with another
pump? Something that can be carried down and placed into the water? I
can't build a holding area halfway up the bank and pump from there and I
really don't want to spend money hooking up to city water and infuse
treated water on the rows. Any help/advice is greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
