[USCC] Milfoil or cornelian effect on composting

Hi.

I am a long time lurker on this list, and really felt it necessary to
chime in on this subject. I forget who drew the parallell between yarrow
and snake oil as a compost amendment, but it irked me. i am a CSA
(community supported agriculture) member at a local organic/biodynamic
farm. i have talked at length with our farmers about biodynamic
preparations, and from what i can tell, this practice is a brilliant way
of adding trace elements to soil, and in a very real way, it's the
ultimate in on-farm recycling.

i have a background in chemistry and microbiology, and appreciate that
soil science is an eminently useful discipline. i have also been
enjoying organic vegetables and grass-fed beef produced by a biodynamic
non-input system....and for that matter, the same science that rejects
biodynamic preparations advocated feeding rendered animal protein to
herbivorous animals.

i'm absolutely not trying to pick a fight, just trying to encourage list
members to consider all sides of a question.

thanks for letting me vent, now back to your regularly scheduled
listserv, joined in progress.
