Hello Caroline;

I cannot speak for Dr. Rubin, but for the information being "refuted"  
is not taken at face value as the paper being totally or even partly  
wrong depending on what is refuted.  What it does is open the door  
for further review by authors and reviewer(s) to present further  
research or evidence from each side concerning what is contested.
